Louise Milne's new film, Eidolon, receives its world premiere at the Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival this Friday, 4 May. Details here.

Last Storyteller screening in Edinburgh 17.02.17.

Louise Milne will introduce Des Bell's film The Last Storyteller on Friday 17th February 2017, at 1300 at the University of Edinburgh (50 George Square, G.03).

A film about folklore based on the work of the Irish Folklore collector Seán ÓhEochaidh.

Des Bell will be present for Q&A. All welcome.

Two New Films Premiere at Alchemy

Louise Milne's Mnemosyne and Seán Martin's A Priest from a Different Land will receive their world premieres at the Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival that takes place in the fabled Scottish Borders town of Hawick in March.

Louise's film screens as part of the Rhythms Crackle programme on Sunday 5 March at 1145. Details here.

Seán's film screens later the same day, in the Nature Spirits programme, which starts at 1600. Details here.

Two World Premieres at Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival This Week

Two of my (Sean) films will premiere at the Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival this week. In the main programme will be Koan III, screening on Saturday 16th April at 1445

'It's the beginning of a new age' - The Velvet Underground. 

And in the screening room upstairs, The Hidden Castle will receive its first screening. These screenings repeat every day, and The Hidden Castle will screen first, on Thursday 14th April at noon.

Sean Martin introduces All Quiet on the Western Front

Sean Martin will be introducing a screening of Lewis Milestone's All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) at the Scottish Parliament on Saturday 5 March 2016. The film starts at 1300, with a discussion afterwards. Sean will be in conversation with Ann-Christin Simke from Goethe-Institut, Glasgow, and Professor Stephan Malinowski, Lecturer in Modern European History at the University of Edinburgh.

Three New Films

Three new short films by Sean Martin are included in the exhibition Shifting Images, which opened at the Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre, and at the Abbey Walk Gallery, Grimsby, on 8th September 2015. The films are Did I Dream You, Mosaic and Platinum, and were made in collaboration with composer David Power. The exhibition marks Sean's and David's second project together after Vestiges, shown in York in February 2015. Shifting Images runs until 6 March 2016. 

Edinburgh Festival of Politics Screenings 14/15 August 2015

 

 

We are introducing two films at this years Festival of Politics, which takes place this weekend at the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh.

Louise introduces Steve McQueen's 12 Years a Slave tonight at 1930. The film will be followed by a Q&A. More details and tickets can be found here.

Genius Loci screens tonight @ Film Weston

Sean's short film Genius Loci screens tonight at Film Weston, the new film festival in Weston-super-Mare. The film, made for the 2007 collaborative documentary feature Super-8 Cities, screens in the Weston on Film slot at 2030.

Koan II Screens at Alchemy Film Festival 17.04.15.

My (Sean's) film Koan II receives its world premiere at the Alchemy Film Festival on Friday. It's screening in the Shorts: Transmutations programme 1710-1815. We're looking forward to attending Alchemy - the best place to see experimental and artist's films in the Borders, possibly the whole of Scotland and maybe even the whole of the UK.

New film, Vestiges, premieres in York 28.02.15.

A new film, Vestiges, will have its world premiere in York next Saturday, 28 February, as part of the Late Music Concert Series.

The film features the stunning landscapes of the island of Jura, and was commissioned for the concert.

A Boat Retold - Screenings in Tasmania 6-9 February 2015

A Boat Retold screens next week, 6-9 February 2015, in Tasmania, which we think marks the furthest screening from where it was shot.

It will be presented at the Australian Wooden Boat Festival by Ian Stephen, who stars in the film and got the whole project going back in May 2010. Ian will screen the film at his readings, the first of which takes place on Friday 6 February at the Dechaineaux Theatre in Hobart at 6pm.

A Boat Retold - Stornoway screening 30.10.14.

A Boat Retold screens in Stornoway on 30 October at 1930 as part of Faclan, the Hebridean Book Festival. The film opens an evening with Ian Stephen, whose first novel, A Book of Death and Fish, has just been published. We need a Paris-based assistant to work with us in the first week of June on a documentary we are making about Tarkovsky. Initial duties - this month - are making phone calls and sending emails to a couple of potential interviewees, then in June helping us get to the locations, and also sitting in on the interviews, acting as interpreter if necessary. A BOAT RETOLD SCREENING TONIGHT - ALCHEMY @ HIDDEN DOOR

A Boat Retold screens in Edinburgh tonight at 1905 at the Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival Preview, which is taking place at the Hidden Door Festival, in the hidden wonders that are the Market Street Vaults. (On the immediate south side of Waverley Station, the Old Town side.) The main Hidden Door preview kicks off at 1700, but the Alchemy tasters and teasers will run from NOON till MIDNIGHT.

Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival 3-6 April 2014

Get on the bus! Alchemy will be running a shuttle between Edinburgh & Hawick. The destination sign will no doubt 

read 'Further'...

We will be attending the Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival next week, which is held in the small Scottish Borders mill town of Hawick (pron. "hoyck"). Louise will be chairing a Filmmakers' Symposium, which kicks things off on Thursday 3rd, at 1400.

The festival runs from Thursday 3 to Sunday 6 April, and will feature the very best of experimental filmmaking, artist's films, underground films and generally the kind of thing you will not be able to see anywhere else.

Held in Tower Mill (AKA Heart of Hawick), the wonderful state of the art converted former mill, Alchemy will show new films by the Brothers Quay, Patrick Bokanowski, Robert Todd,

Nathaniel Dorsky, Alberto Gracia, Chai Chunya, Rachel Maclean, Siobhan Davies and many others.

Live events will include Rocio von Jungenfeld’s Film Walk, multi-projector performances from Nominoë and Jacques Perconte and a film-rant by Duncan Reekie.
